Da Nang for a one to three month stay

Da Nang is a flat beach city on the coast of central Vietnam. It has a long beach, a river downtown, many apartments for rent and a steady number of cafes and coworking spaces.

Prices below are rough. They come from travel and cost sites that collect user numbers, and the sources do not agree. Anything we could not confirm says "check before you go".

Where to live

  • My Khe. The long beach strip, with cafes, gyms and many apartments to rent.
  • An Thuong. A walkable grid of cafes and restaurants a short walk from the beach. Guides call it the main street for foreigners and remote workers. One guide says it has become pricier than other parts of the city 1.
  • Han River. The downtown by the river, with its bridges and markets and a more local feel.

Visit for a week before you sign a longer lease. Most people rent a short stay first, then look at listings in person.

Rent and monthly costs

Landlords often quote in US dollars and ask for a deposit. We found no source for the usual deposit in Da Nang, so ask. Rough figures at about 26,000 dong to the dollar 2:

Typical total for one person: $840 to $1,150 a month in one snapshot 3, and $1,000 to $1,500 in another guide 1. A lean budget is lower if you rent the way locals do. These are rough sums, not quotes.

Coworking and cafes

Hot desks cost about VND 2 to 3.5 million a month at most spaces, and some premium ones charge up to 6 million 4. Cafes with good wifi are easy to find near An Thuong and the river. Test the speed at your own desk before you pay for a month. Most spaces sell a day pass, so try one first.

Weather by month

Rain falls mostly from September to December. The wettest months are October and November, and typhoons can arrive then 8.

Getting there and around

Da Nang has its own airport, close to the center. Ride apps and taxis work well, and the city is flat and runs along the coast. Scooters are easy to rent, but a valid licence for the bike matters for fines and insurance. Rules differ by source, so check before you go 7.

Nearest border run

The usual run is by road to Lao Bao and across to Dansavanh in Laos. It takes about 5 hours each way to the border, and a sleeper bus to Savannakhet costs about $20 to $35 one way 9. Your new e-visa must name Lao Bao as the entry port. See the full guide for costs, visas and the other options.

Safety and annoyances

  • Typhoon season. Heavy rain and storms are most likely from September to December 8. Keep your return flight flexible in those months.
  • Heat. From May to August highs stay above 33 C 8.
  • Scooter risk. Accidents without a valid licence can leave you without insurance cover 7.
  • Prices near the beach. Rents in An Thuong and My Khe sit above the city average 1.

Plan the rest

Work out what your passport gets in the visa check. If your stay is longer than one visa, read about border runs. Then add up your own month in the budget tool.
