Vietnam e-visa still processing: what to do today
A pending e-visa is normal for the first 3 working days. Check the status on Vietnam's e-visa site with your registration code, your email address and your date of birth, and wait before you apply again. A second application does not make the first one go faster.
Vietnam's e-visa site states 3 working days for a decision 1. Weekends and holidays do not count. Other sources describe longer waits, so the point where you should start to worry depends on how many days you have left.
What to do today
- Find your registration code. The e-visa site gives it to you when you submit, and it is also sent to your email. You need it to look up the result 2.
- Check the status yourself. Open evisa.gov.vn, go to the search page for e-visa results, and enter the registration code, the email address and the date of birth you used 2.
- Do not expect an email. One embassy FAQ says no email is sent with the result, so the only way to see it is to look 2.
- Read the status. If it says approved, download and print the e-visa. If it says a correction is needed, read what is asked and answer it. If it says nothing has changed, count the working days.
- Do not pay twice. A second application takes a second fee. Payments for the e-visa are not refunded 2.
How long is normal
The e-visa site states 3 working days 1. In practice many applications are approved sooner, and some take longer. One embassy FAQ gives 5 to 30 working days from the date the complete application and the fee are received 2. That page is dated Jan 2025, so check before you go.
Count working days only. A request sent on Friday afternoon does not start counting until Monday. Add every public holiday. Around Tet the site can pause for days 3.
When to worry
- Before the 3rd working day: wait. Nothing is wrong.
- After the 3rd working day, with time to spare: check the status daily and your email, including the spam folder, for a request to correct something.
- After the 3rd working day, with a flight inside a week: write to the immigration department. The embassy FAQ lists foreigners@immigration.gov.vn and the hotlines 024 3826 4026 for Hanoi and 028 3920 0365 for Ho Chi Minh City 2. Check before you go that these are still current.
- With a flight inside two days: decide now whether to move the flight. Do not wait for the last hour.
What an agency can and cannot do
An agency can check that your details are right before you submit, so that they do not cause a refusal. It can file the application for you, follow it, tell you when it is approved and send you the file. Faster speeds are explained in our guide to urgent e-visas.
An agency cannot make Vietnam's immigration department approve an application, and it cannot correct an application that is already with them. An embassy cannot approve, issue or correct an e-visa either 2. Be careful with anyone who promises an approval by a fixed hour. The decision is the government's.
If you applied on your own and want help, do not file a second application on another site while the first one is pending. Ask first.
What to do next
If you have not applied yet, the visa check shows what your passport needs. If you already applied, the tracker shows how long a request takes and when to expect an answer. Faster speeds are on the apply page.
Questions and answers
How do I check my Vietnam e-visa status?
Use the e-visa search page on evisa.gov.vn. Enter the registration code, the email address and the date of birth from your application 2. The code is the only way in, so keep the email it came in.
I lost my registration code. What now?
Look in your email for the message from the e-visa site, including spam. If you cannot find it, write to the immigration department with your name, passport number and date of birth 2. We could not confirm that they can look it up. Check before you go.
My e-visa has been pending for 5 days. Is that a problem?
Not yet if some of those days were a weekend or a holiday. Count working days from the day you paid. If you are past 3 working days and your flight is soon, write to the immigration department and think about moving the flight.
Can I apply again while the first application is pending?
You can, but it takes a second fee and does not speed up the first. It can also lead to two e-visas for the same trip. Wait for the first answer unless it is clearly stuck and you have little time. Check before you go.
Can an agency make the approval faster?
No. An agency can send a clean application and watch it. Only the immigration department decides, and a request for a correction can delay the answer until you reply 2.
