How to read it

The numbers are rough planning figures in US dollars, not quotes. They are per person for each day, then multiplied by your days and people.

  • Lean. A simple room, local food, buses and short rides.
  • Comfortable. A good apartment, a mix of local food and cafes, rides when you want them.
  • Roomy. A nicer place, more eating out, more trips and nights out.

Rent, food, transport and phone together come to a monthly range per city, from lean to roomy. For one person that is about $900 to $1,500 in Da Nang, $850 to $1,400 in Hoi An, $1,100 to $1,900 in Ho Chi Minh City, $1,000 to $1,700 in Hanoi, $750 to $1,200 in Da Lat, $850 to $1,400 in Nha Trang and $1,000 to $1,700 in Phu Quoc. Insurance and extras come on top. These are our own estimates. Guides we read put one remote worker at about $920 a month in Da Nang, $1,280 in Hanoi and $1,380 in Ho Chi Minh City, which sits inside these ranges 1. Another guide gives lean budgets of $600 to $800 in Da Nang and $700 to $900 in Ho Chi Minh City, a little under ours 2. Sources differ a lot, so treat every total as rough.

The visa line

If you pick a passport, the calculator checks whether you need a visa for that many days. A visa-free stay costs nothing. Otherwise the line is an e-visa at the speed each style assumes: standard for lean, next working day for comfortable, same day for roomy. Our prices start at $59 for each traveler, including the $25 government fee, and we confirm the final price before you pay. You can also apply yourself on evisa.gov.vn for the $25 fee on a single entry 3. See the [e-visa guide](/visa) for both ways.

What is not counted

Flights, coworking, a motorbike rental, gear and big purchases are not in the totals. Rent is counted for each person, so two people sharing a room will usually pay less than shown. Prices move with the season and the exchange rate.

Questions and answers

Can I enter more than 90 days?

The calculator stops at 90 days because one e-visa covers up to 90 days. For a longer plan, read the [border run guide](/visa/border-run).

Why is the visa shown when I pick no passport?

Without a passport the calculator shows an e-visa as the worst case, so the total is not too low. Pick your passport to see the real answer.
