Vietnam e-visa rejected: common reasons and how to apply again
Most refusals come from a detail that does not match the passport: a name, a passport number, a date or a photo. Find the mistake, fix it and send a new application. There is no formal appeal in the sources we read, and the government fee is generally not refunded 1,2.
The usual reasons
- Name order. The surname and given names must sit in the same order as on the photo page of the passport. A missing middle name or a name spelled differently is a common cause 1,3.
- Passport number. One wrong character is enough. Copy the number from the photo page, not from an old booking.
- Photo. Agencies name photo problems as the top cause: a blurry portrait, the wrong background, the wrong file size or format, or a passport scan that is cropped 1,3. Use a recent plain photo of your face and a flat, full scan of the photo page with all four corners visible.
- Passport validity. Guides say the passport should be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date 3. Check before you go. Some passports are fine with less, but a short validity is a cheap risk to remove.
- Entry port. The e-visa works only at the port named on the form. A wrong port does not always cause a refusal, but it can stop you at the airline desk or the border 4. Our border run guide explains the port list.
- Dates. Travel dates that do not fit the e-visa, such as a stay of more than 90 days, can fail. The e-visa covers up to 90 days 5. Mismatched dates are a common cause in the guides we read 3.
- Applying from inside Vietnam. One source says an application sent from inside Vietnam is rejected automatically 3. Other guides say it works. We could not confirm either, so check before you go.
What a refusal looks like
Check the status on evisa.gov.vn with your registration code, your email and your date of birth 2. A refused application and one that needs a correction are not the same thing. If the site asks for a correction, answer it and wait. If it says the application was not granted, you start again with a new one.
How to apply again
- Find the cause. Put the passport photo page beside your application and compare every line.
- Fix the photo and the scan first. They are the most common cause 1,3.
- Start a new application. One source says you can submit the new one the same day the cause is fixed 1.
- Expect to pay the fee again. The government fee on a refused application is not refunded and does not move to the next application 1,2. Another source ties this to a 2026 circular, which we could not verify. Check before you go.
- Count the days. A new application starts the processing time again, 3 working days on the e-visa site 6. If your flight is close, a faster speed on our order form helps with our part only.
- Do not send two at once. Wait for the answer to the first one unless it is clearly stuck.
If the same application is refused twice, look at things other than typing: a name change, an old passport that was replaced, or a past immigration problem. These need the immigration department itself, not a new form. The embassy FAQ lists foreigners@immigration.gov.vn 2.
What to do next
Run the visa check again with the details exactly as they appear in your passport. When you are ready to send a new application, apply here, or read what to do while one is still processing.
Questions and answers
Can I appeal a Vietnam e-visa refusal?
We found no formal appeal in the sources we read. The usual route is to fix the cause and apply again 1. Check before you go if you think the refusal was wrong. You can write to the immigration department 2.
Do I get my money back after a refusal?
The government fee generally is not refunded 1,2. We confirm the final price by email before you pay, so read it first.
How long before I can apply again?
Sources say the same day 1. We found no waiting period. Check before you go.
Does a rejection hurt my next application?
We found no source that says it does. Fix the cause and keep the details the same as the passport.
I made a typo in the passport number after the e-visa was approved. What now?
The e-visa shows the number you entered. If it differs from the passport, the airline can refuse you, so apply again with the right number before you fly 4. Check before you go whether the immigration department can correct it for you.
