Single or multiple entry Vietnam e-visa: fees and when it pays off
A multiple-entry e-visa costs $25 more than a single-entry one in government fees, $50 against $25 1. It pays off when you will leave Vietnam and come back inside the same stay, for example for a side trip to Cambodia or Laos. If you will enter once and leave once, take single entry.
The fees
The government fee is $25 for single entry and $50 for multiple entry per traveler 1. Our prices include that fee and add $25 to any speed for multiple entry:
| Speed | Single entry | Multiple entry |
|---|---|---|
| Standard, 3 working days | $59 | $84 |
| Next working day | $89 | $114 |
| Same day | $129 | $154 |
| Two hours | $169 | $194 |
Speeds, promises and cut-offs are explained in our guide to urgent e-visas. Prices are per traveler.
When multiple entry pays off
The sums are simple. Two single-entry e-visas cost two government fees, $50, which equals the fee for one multiple-entry e-visa. With our Standard speed, two singles are $118 and one multiple-entry e-visa is $84.
Multiple entry wins when:
- You leave and come back in one window. The second single e-visa has to be applied for and approved while you are away. Planning for that, 3 working days stated, is easy to get wrong 3.
- You will make three or more entries. Two singles already cost as much as one multiple, and a third costs more.
- You do not want a deadline on a side trip. You can cross when it suits you, inside the dates.
Single entry is enough when:
- You enter once and leave once. A multiple-entry e-visa has nothing extra to give you.
- Your second stay starts after the first window ends. A new window needs a new e-visa whatever type the first was 2.
- Your passport gets a visa-free stay and your plan fits inside it. Run the visa check before you pay for either.
Side trips to Cambodia and Laos
A multiple-entry e-visa lets you cross out and come back without a new application 2. What you still need is the neighbor's rules and the right port.
- The port. The e-visa works only at ports on the list, and the port you name on the form matters. One guide says later entries on a multiple-entry e-visa can use any port on the list. We could not confirm this, so check before you go and plan to return through the port named on the e-visa 2,4.
- Cambodia. Visa on arrival is posted at about $30, and an e-visa is also about $30. Cambodia asks for a passport valid for 6 months or more 5,6. Reports say Prek Chak, at Ha Tien, does not take the Cambodian e-visa, so plan on the visa on arrival there 6.
- Laos. Visa on arrival at Lao Bao is reported at about $30 to $45 cash in US dollars. The Laos e-visa does not work at Vietnam land crossings 7. Laos asks for a passport valid for 6 months or more 8.
- Printing. Carry a printed e-visa. Land crossings often want paper 4.
- Crossing hours. Gates close in the evening, and some charge extra at weekends 4,7.
Our border run guide has the crossings, rough times and costs city by city.
What to do next
The visa check shows your passport and the days you can book. When you know the trip, apply here and tick multiple entry on the form. The border run guide covers the crossings.
Questions and answers
How much more is a multiple-entry Vietnam e-visa?
$25 in government fees, $50 against $25 1. On our form it is $25 more for any speed.
Can I use a multiple-entry e-visa for a side trip to Cambodia?
Yes, inside its dates. You still need the Cambodian visa, and you should return through a port on the Vietnam e-visa list 2,5.
Does multiple entry give me 90 days each time?
No. It is one window of up to 90 days 2.
Can I switch from single to multiple entry later?
We found no way to change an e-visa you already hold. Check before you go. The usual answer is a new application for the type you want.
Do I need multiple entry if my passport gets 45 days visa-free?
Usually not. A passport with a visa-free stay needs no e-visa for a stay of 45 days, and a re-entry starts a new 45 days under the 2025 resolutions. Check before you go 9.
Can I use any airport or border on the way back?
Use the port named on the e-visa. One guide says any port on the list works for later entries, but we could not confirm that 4.
